Martin Currie, an Edinburgh-based investment manager that is owned by Legg Mason, has expanded its distribution team with a former chief executive of Source ETF, who joins as head of distribution and strategy.
Julian Ide is “a proven asset gatherer”, according to the firm, who has an ability to identify and realise new business opportunities.
Martin Currie said the “key strategic hire” is the fourth for the business since the turn of the year and follows the appointment of Zehrid Osmani, who joined in May from BlackRock as head of the global long term unconstrained team.
Ide has been in the investment industry for over 25 years and prior to Source he was chief executive of Old Mutual Global Investors.
Willie Watt, chief executive at Martin Currie, said Ide was a “crucial” hire for the business, and added: “Given Julian’s strategic experience and previous success, it is right that he should have responsibility for developing our forward strategy, in partnership with me.”
Martin Currie manages $19 billion (€16.1 billion) in assets under management, as at end-March 2018, across active equity strategies.
