Euronext launches space index

Euronext has launched its first European space-related index to track the performance of European companies in the space sector.

The stock exchange has partnered with the European Space Agency (Esa), European Commission (EC) and venture capitalists Promus Ventures to create the Euronext Helios Space Index.

Euronext will launch, develop and maintain the index, with the other participants performing advisory roles.

The trio intend to provide their expert advice in their respective areas of activity within the space sector in Europe.

The index selects companies involved in the upstream activity related to the space industry.

This includes companies engaging in the design and manufacture of space systems and their launch vehicles, as well as companies involved in the design and delivery of hardware and software for the deployment of ground stations.

The index also targets companies downstream in the space value chain, including those providing communications, navigation, and observation data.

The index is designed to display a fair and balanced financial representation of space companies which originated in Europe and those which operate in Europe.

It also aims to boost the visibility of companies within the index and drive the creation of financial products to support investment strategies.

In a statement, Euronext said: “It is intended to provide exposure to financial markets and increase the visibility of the space sector and space companies entering the public market.

“It is also intended to facilitate the participation of individuals less informed on the space sector into public markets, thereby contributing to the growth of the valuation of the sector.”

The launch of the space index is Euronext’s most recent index launch.

Earlier this month, the stock exchange launched a climate-focused version of the CAC 40.

The launch also contributes to the rising number of recent thematic fund launches.

In August, Invesco expanded its thematic range of funds with an offering focused on metaverse-related equities.

Also that month, BlackRock launched the BlackRock Future Financial and Technology ETF (BPAY) to expand its thematic Megatrends platform.
