Axa Investment Managers has poached Olivier Paquier, a veteran of European distribution, to head up its global ETF sales.
Effective immediately, Paquier has previously worked at State Street, where he headed up SPDR ETF distribution in France, Monaco, Spain and Portugal, and then at JP Morgan Asset Management where he built the firm's active ETF business in Emea.
He will be based in Paris in this new role.
Supported by nine salespeople worldwide and an ETF business manager, Paquier will report to global head of ETF and product strategy, Nicolas-Louis Guille-Biel.
Guille-Biel said: “We have now reinforced our ETF distribution value chain and are delighted to welcome Olivier, one of the most recognised ETF professionals in the industry.”
ETFs have become an increased focus for the French firm, with Guille-Biel stating the firm has ambitions to become a leading ETF player in Europe.
In September 2022, Axa IM launched its own ETF platform with two initial strategies based on sustainable investment.
At this time, Axa IM made another senior hire and appointed Brieuc Louchard as head of ETF capital markets, with Louchard joining from Euronext, where he was head of ETFs.
ESG has since emerged as a driving force in the European ETF market. Earlier this week, data from Morningstar revealed that ESG funds accounted for 65% of total flows into European ETFs throughout 2022.
