Axa IM appoints European pensions chief

Axa Investment Managers (Axa IM) has appointed Erik Jan van Bergen to the newly-created role of head of pensions for Europe.

From September this year, van Bergen will head the firm’s fiduciary management business, and develop it pensions business across Europe.

He will mainly be based in the firm’s Amsterdam office, although will spend time at Axa IM’s Paris headquarters. He will report to Mathilde Sauvé, head of institutional solutions.

Van Bergen joins from Dutch socially responsible investment specialist Actiam, where he served as chief investment officer from 2009. He was also a member of the firm’s board. He was in charge of asset allocation and manager selection duties, its equities, fixed income and real estate divisions, and shaping the firm’s sustainable investment policy.

Prior to Actiam, van Bergen worked in the alternative credit team at Citigroup from 2004 to 2009. He was also co-head of the global fixed income group at ING Investment Management between 1991 and 2004.

Axa IM manages assets of €666 billion as of March 31, 2016.
