Asset management expert to head UBS sustainable committee

UBS bank has appointed Huw Van Steenis, a one-time strategist at Schroders and more recently a Bank of England (BoE) adviser, to chair its new sustainable finance committee.

Van Steenis (pictured) will also lead investor relations and be a group managing director.

UBS said the committee would be firm-wide and involve senior business leaders who are already engaged in UBS’s sustainability efforts.

The bank said van Steenis is regarded by investors and asset owners as an “expert in the field of sustainable finance”.

He was once global head of strategy at Schroders, then held senior roles at Morgan Stanley for 14 years.

More recently, van Steenis was senior adviser to Governor Mark Carney at the BoE, where he led a review of the future of the financial system and what it might mean for the bank. This led to a BoE exploratory climate change stress test for financial institutions.
