AMP Capital listed infrastructure equity team joins HSBC AM

HSBC Asset Management has hired AMP Capital’s former listed infrastructure equity team and launched its first Global Listed Infrastructure Equity Fund.

The seven team members have joined from AMP Capital as HSBC AM seeks to expand its alternative investments capability.

Giuseppe Corona, head of listed infrastructure equity at HSBC AM, said: “We are excited to join HSBC AM’s growing alternatives investment platform. Listed infrastructure has seen significant growth over the last decade.

“We expect this trend to continue, supported by secular tailwinds such as the ongoing digitalisation of the economy and the vital need to transition to a lower carbon environment.”

The listed infrastructure equity team, which is led by London-based Corona, has previously worked together for over five years.

The team will be split across London and Sydney and will report to Joanna Munro, CEO of HSBC Alternatives.

Managing principals on the listed infrastructure equity team, Andy Jones and Antonio Barbera, will be based in London with Corona, as will principal Michel Debs and investment specialist Jessica Nguy.

The rest of the team, including managing principal Joseph Titmus and senior analyst Xueting (Claire) Zhang, are located in Sydney, Australia.

The new Global Infrastructure Equity Fund will invest in a diversified portfolio of listed infrastructure assets across both developed and developing equity markets, with a focus on the communications, energy, transportation, and utilities sectors.

Munro said: “Infrastructure equity fits perfectly with our strategy of bringing core and innovative solutions to institutional and wealth clients who are increasingly looking to diversify and allocate more to alternatives. Asset classes like infrastructure are ideally placed, as they allow them to do this with a sustainable focus.”

The actively managed fund, which will embed ESG criteria into the investment process, is classified as Article 8 under the EU’s Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation.

Both institutional and wholesale clients globally will be offered access to the fund.
