Editorial: Books and V-bucks

By the time you read this, I will have hosted my first webinar from home, which I hope will go without a hitch. The subject is Ireland’s funds industry as it faces the Covid-19 challenge. As you can see from the cover, the topic overlaps with this month’s magazine.

The webinar is audio-only, so I do not have to bother with an eclectically filled bookcase behind me or a background effect with the same aim. I don’t even have to comb my hair.

What does concern me is whether the increasingly lethargic kids will be up and out of the house in time for the 10am event. My better half is to take them for a drive – a distraction tactic that relaxed lockdown rules apparently allow.

Because that is my worst fear, of course: a juvenile room invasion that the mute button can’t adequately cover.

An additional precaution is to offer the kids a bribe – so, in what points to the future of the funds industry, the currency agreed is not pounds sterling, but Fortnite V-bucks.
