Fund search activity suggests fixed income assets are piquing investors interest in the second quarter of 2019, writes Tom Ashford.
If increased investor activity is an indicator of future asset flows, managers of fixed income funds look set to benefit. The second quarter of 2019 saw investor activity increase by over 6% with managers of fixed income vehicles seeing the largest proportional increase in search activity.
Within the fixed income universe Gloal Broad Bonds once again was the most searched on asset class by investors and this asset class experienced the largest proportional increase in activity compared to the previous quarter across all asset classes.
The other most searched strategies during the second quarter within their own asset class universes were: Global Equity, Global Diversified Growth and UK Property. However, it was also interesting to see how many different strategies were being looked at during this period. UK Equity climbed into the top 5 most searched on asset classes among equity strategies despite continued uncertainty surrounding Brexit, with Aberdeen Standard Investments being the most searched manager in this asset class over the 12 months to the end of the second quarter.
The stats showed that M&G Investments was the most searched manager among managers of Global Broad Bond vehicles, while Aberdeen Standard Investments also had the highest amount of activity in the Global Diversified Growth (Multi-Asset) universe.
Focusing on Commodities,Threadneedle Asset Management was the most searched manager over the 12 months up until the end of the second quarter.
Asset classes within the fixed income universe dominated the largest proportional search increases between the first quarter of 2019 and the second quarter. Geographically, Europe, Emerging Markets and the UK were the main beneficiaries of this increase in search activity.
Over the qaurter there were 145 new products added to CAMRADATA Live. Over 60% of these vehicles fell into the equity asset class. ACTIAM N.V. led the way, adding 7 new products to CAMRADATA Liver over the quarter.
