FundTech Awards: In it to win it

Funds Europe has announced the launch of the first FundTech Awards, designed to recognise innovation in our industry.

Funds Europe will host a series of awards designed to showcase excellence in fund technology and service innovation.

Created in conjunction with Sionic, the global financial services consultancy, the FundTech Awards will be presented for the first time in the autumn of 2020 and will highlight the contribution that technology innovators, suppliers and project leaders are making to the advance of the funds industry.

To qualify, entrants must be based in Europe or provide solutions into the European market.

These FundTech Awards are an extension of the Funds Europe Investment Funds Industry Annual Awards, which have been running for 15 years and were staged last year at the Tower of London.

Funds Europe launched its FundTech project three years ago to monitor how technology and service innovation are powering the funds industry’s transition to digital transformation. By partnering with Sionic, this adds the expertise of an independent partner that is equally focused on recognising the best in the industry.

The awards will be grouped into four categories: product design; development and innovation; project outcomes; and outstanding individual contributions to funds technology. These will spotlight pacesetters across the investment process, including front-office solutions, client service, technology platforms and distribution services, along with middle- and back-office technology.

The awards will also recognise best practice in project implementation and collaboration within the European investment funds sector.

Alan Chalmers, publisher, Funds Europe, said: “We see more and more emphasis on technology in the funds industry and this has moved to centre stage in recent months. We responded to this move with the launch of Fund Tech and are now splitting off technology from the Funds Europe Awards to give greater emphasis to the technology area. This will profile best of breed, innovation, successful outcomes and provide recognition for the key people driving the industry.”

Jonathan Hammond, partner at Sionic, added: “These new awards are about showcasing and celebrating innovation, contribution and value. At Sionic, we work closely with a wide range of international clients and we believe it is essential to recognise the people and achievements both in leadership and behind the scenes: the vendor improvements, implementations, and best-in-class software that are fundamental to a resilient, innovative sector.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Funds Europe as a respected industry leader to do this. I’m even looking forward to the challenging task of judging the entries.”

Natasha Silva, managing director – client relations, CAMRADATA, said: “These awards were designed in 2019 long before the coronavirus pandemic hit us. Over the last couple of months, we have seen the importance of technology and innovation in solving many unimagined requirements.

“The awards will highlight the extraordinary contribution technology, suppliers and people have made to the industry. There are many companies, clients and people who deserve recognition and we hope to celebrate these at the event we are looking to host in September.”

The awards will be decided by a panel of senior-level industry professionals. The closing date for entries will be 3 July 2020.
