A US asset manager from Santa Fe, New Mexico, has opened a London office to build up its global distribution, which includes an Ireland Ucits fund range.
London is the first overseas office opened by Thornburg Investment Management, which has US$ 87 billion (€66 billion) of assets.
The firm says the opening reflects the “growing consideration by institutional and professional investors for awarding global investment mandates [rather than geographical mandates] that allow their asset managers to be more nimble”.
Thornburg has appointed Chris Elsmark and Karim Elfar to the newly created positions of joint managing directors.
The two will lead Thornburg Global Advisors, the London-based entity responsible for the firm’s institutional and professional investor market outside the US.
Elsmark joins the firm from Copthall Partners. He has also held senior positions at Scottish Widows Investment Partnership, BNP Paribas Investment Partners, T. Rowe Price and JP Morgan Asset Management in London.
Elfar was formerly a managing director and head of international for Davis Advisors.
The two report to Peter Trevisani, head of global distribution and president of Thornburg Global Investment plc, the Irish-domiciled Ucits fund range.
