Russ Oxley and a team of five have joined Old Mutual Global Investors (OMGI) to manage the firm’s fixed income absolute return strategies.
Oxley takes the role of head of fixed income absolute return and will report to Julian Ide, chief executive officer. Oxley’s team will consists of Huw Davies, Joshua Heming, Adam Purzitsky, Paul Shanta and Jin Wong.
It was reported that the team, previously of Ignis Asset Management, were considering the move in late 2014, after Standard Life Investments acquired Ignis earlier in the year.
Oxley has over 17 years of investment management experience, including ten years at Ignis Asset Management, where he started as UK government bonds investment manager and later became head of rates in 2007. Prior to joining Ignis, he worked as an assistant fund manager at Swiss Reinsurance. He has also worked for LV Group and Investec Asset Management.
Oxley and the team previously managed the £4.2 billion (€5.8 billion) Ignis Absolute Return Government Bond Fund. At OMGI they will focus on preparing for the autumn 2015 launch and future management of a new range of Absolute Return Government Bond products, subject to regulatory approval. Old Mutual Global Investors will also open an office in Edinburgh to continue the team’s work in two locations.
While the appointments are newly created positions within OMGI, the firm also has an existing nine-strong fixed income team. Julian Ide, CEO OMGI, says that the appointments highlight the firm’s plans to expand its share of the absolute return market and develop liability-driven investment solutions.
Old Mutual Global Investors has assets under management of £21 billion, as at 31 December 2014.
