AXA brings in a big gun to replace chief economist

Laurence BooneEric Chaney, AXA Investment Manager’s (Axa IM) chief economist, has announced his intention to retire in September. Laurence Boone (pictured), special advisor to French President François Hollande on multilateral and European economic and financial affairs, will take his place.

Boone will be responsible for providing, “a vision on the most likely scenarios for the global economy in the medium to long term, as well as an assessment of the main macroeconomic risks,” said the firm in statement.

Boone will be based in AXA IM’s Paris office, and will head a global team of 10 economists and investment strategists.

At the Elysée, she oversaw G20 negotiations on behalf of the President, and managed relationships with EU institutions, IMF and member states on economic and financial issues.

Prior to her work for President Hollande, she has held a variety of roles including chief European economist at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, chief economist at Barclays Capital’s French division, and an economist at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
