Fund groups that sell cross-border benefited most from the resurgent European appetite for emerging-markets funds in evidence in the first half of 2009, according to new report from the research group Lipper released on 28 August. Cross-border groups booked €12bn from record emerging-market fund net sales of €15bn in the first six months of 2009 with JP Morgan, Barclays and Société Générale leading the field.

The bank has launched an ETF based on the FTSE 100 that is domiciled in Ireland and listed on the London Stock Exchange. It is registered for sale in the UK and further registrations in a selection of mainland European countries are planned.

New research from an assistant professor of finance at Maastricht University released last week suggests that could – and perhaps should – be about to change.
