UBS hires UK’s former EU commissioner

The EU’s former financial services commissioner Jonathan Hill has taken up a new role as a senior political adviser to UBS.

Hill, who resigned as the UK’s nominated EU commissioner in the immediate aftermath of the 2016 Brexit referendum, will advise the Swiss bank on capital markets underwriting.

During his two-year term as an EU commissioner, Hill spearheaded the European Commission’s EU capital markets union project. He was replaced by the Latvian politician Valdis Dombrovskis.

Before Hill’s move to Brussels in 2014 the Conservative politician was for 18 months leader of the House of Lords, the UK’s secondary legislative chamber.

Last year he took up a part-time post as senior adviser to the global law firm Freshfields.
