Northern Trust poaches ESG specialist

Julia Kochetygova has joined Northern Trust Asset Management as senior environmental, social and governance (ESG) research analyst.

Based in the firm’s London office, Kochetygova will drive ESG research across Northern Trust’s range of investment vehicles. She will seek to identify companies that practice and promote environmental stewardship, social justice, human rights, diversity, consumer protection and corporate governance.

Kochetygova joins from S&P Dow Jones Indices, where she was head of sustainability indices, leading the firm’s ESG index development, and assisting in the launch of several new sustainability index ranges.

In a recent survey of institutional investors conducted by Northern Trust, over 50% of respondents said they expected ESG factors to become increasingly important in the investment process over the next five years, with 26% saying ESG credentials could “make or break” a deal. The firm claims to have over 25 years’ experience in managing socially responsible portfolios to date.

As of March 31 2016, Northern Trust managed assets of $900 billion (€809.2 billion) globally, including $57.9 billion in ESG screened strategies.
