Advisory and fund administration firm Maitland has made Martina Swart (pictured) the group head of governance services in a newly created role.
Swart joins the firm from Orbis Investment Advisory, where she was a senior adviser to the business, covering governance matters. Previously she was global head of prime service legal advisory at Barclays in New York and before that she held senior legal roles at financial institutions including Citigroup, Citadel Investment Group and Credit Suisse.
Swart’s 15 years industry experience has included management of legal, risk and compliance matters, including broker-dealer and fund regulation, fixed income and equity finance, insolvency law, securities law and prime services.
At Maitland she has joined the executive committee and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of governance services that includes regulatory, compliance and the risk management function. She will be based in the London office and report directly to the chief executive officer, Steve Georgala.
Georgala said that Swart is arriving at an exciting time for the firm, which has opened offices in Miami and New York this year and her knowledge of relevant international laws will be crucial for the next stage of growth.
