Lombard Odier Investment Managers (LOIM) has acquired AlphaGen Capital’s Volantis investment management team from Henderson Group. The team manages more that $1 billion (€900 million) in UK equity long/short and long only strategies.
The eight-person team will join LOIM’s existing 1798 hedge fund strategies platform and be based in London. It will manage a strategy focused on UK small-caps and have access to the firm’s asset management platform, including investment strategists, operations, distribution, risk management, compliance and legal capabilities.
Before the team can transfer to LOIM, it will require board approvals, regulatory consents and investor votes. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of next year at which point LOIM will become the manager of the alternative funds and sub-manager of the long-only fund currently managed by the Volantis investment management team.
AlphaGen Capital was acquired by Henderson Group in 2011 although launched its first fund in 2002.
“The team comes to us with a proven investment process, strong track record and extensive network which will underpin growth in existing client relationships and access to new clients,” said Jean-Pascal Porcherot, head of 1798 hedge fund strategies, at LOIM.
