Investors return to hedge funds in a “big way”

Hedge funds assets under management reached $3.209 trillion (€2.693 trillion) at the end of August, apparently turning around their struggling business performance.

“After a tough run with performance and investor redemptions in the past few years, investors have come back to hedge funds in a big way…” said eVestment in its ‘August 2017 Hedge Fund Asset Flows Report’.

Investors placed $13.4 billion into global hedge funds during the month, eVestment data showed.

But investors seem to have shown caution in emerging market-focused hedge funds.

These funds had show “exceptional” performance and saw a two-month inflow rally in June and July.

But in August investors pulled $1.69 billion from this category.

“Some investors might be losing faith that emerging markets funds’ winning streak can continue or may be taking some gains to invest elsewhere, but this is a trend worth watching,” said eVestment.
