The Investment Association, which represents the UK’s funds industry, has promoted Johannes Woelfing to the newly-created position of head of European affairs ahead of the trade association’s opening of an office in Brussels.
Woelfing, who will be the IA’s main representative in Brussels from the beginning of this month, will be responsible for the IA’s European Union policy work and setting up the IA’s new Brussels office.
He has worked for the association for four years as a regulatory and legal specialist, most recently leading on the IA’s work on macro prudential regulation and financial stability.
Woelfing, who originally trained as a lawyer in Germany and worked as a political advisor in the European Parliament, is a member of Efama’s financial stability & prudential requirements working group.
IA chief executive Chris Cummings said: “With more than £1.4 trillion of European assets managed in the UK, a figure that is growing every year, it is essential that the IA has a more permanent voice in Brussels that can help represent our industry and the clients they serve at a European level.
“Johannes’ industry, legal and policy experience within the European Parliament and the IA will be valuable to ensure the asset management industry’s voice is better understood by policy makers and regulators in Europe.”
