German appetite for equities shines through in April flows

Assets in Germany’s equity funds and balanced funds have reached an all-time high, the country’s funds industry association BVI said.

Retail investors, who invested €5.1 billion in open-ended funds in April, helped take retail open-ended equity funds under management to €369 billion.

Equities even showed their popularity in the balanced funds sector, with the market share of equity-orientated balanced products increasing from 22% to 27%.

Overall assets in balanced funds – which traditionally equally weight equities and bonds – reached €247 billion.

Together, these two asset classes dominate Germany’s €968 billion open-ended retail funds market.

Total net inflows in the German fund industry were €18.4 billion in April.
