Former IFS admin head Mary Murphy opens hedge fund

Mary Murphy, who spent 20 years as a fund administration chief, has opened up a hedge fund for specialist investors.

Murphy co-founded International Fund Services, a specialist administration firm, in 1996 and eventually sold it to State Street.

She launched an Isle of Man-based hedge fund, Libero Development Fund, last year and has now opened it to specialist investors.

“It has taken a period of adjustment to move, after 20 years, from the administration side of the hedge fund industry to actually establishing a hedge fund,” she said.

Murphy claims Libero, which aims for a 12% return per annum, has a unique investment strategy, investing through private placement, European medium-term notes, bonds and structured notes. Any securities held are rated at least investment grade.

As of July 31, 2016, year-to-date the fund – which was previously only open to closed private fund investors – returned 5.07%.

“Having seen enough investment strategies over the years, I truly feel that in the current investment climate, there is a real need for our unique investment strategy and offering”.
