ETFs finish 2016 with another record AUM

ETF assets reached yet another high at the end of last year with the industry recording US$3.546 trillion (€3.338 trillion) of assets under management globally.

Not only this, but ETFs and other exchange-traded products whose numbers are included in the ETFGI data, also gathered a record level of net inflows – $65.25 billion – in December.

Equity products raised the majority of that, with $63.28 billion, followed by fixed income and active ETFs. Commodity products saw outflows of $4.24 billion.

During the whole year, the ETF industry gathered net inflows of nearly $390 billion, also a record.

The European industry’s assets under management rose to $571 billion and in Asia Pacific ex-Japan the figures was $135 billion.

iShares gathered the largest inflows globally in December, followed by SPDR ETFs and Vanguard.
