Emerging market bond fund sales lag Europe equities

Emerging market bond funds were one of the top three sellers in May, underlining the recent run of strong sales for emerging market investments.

However, the emerging market bond funds category came in third place, while global bonds was the most popular category of the month, followed by European equities.

Inflows into the top three categories were: global bonds €5.6 billion; European equities €3.5 billion; emerging market bonds €2.6 billion.

May 2017 was the fifth consecutive month showing a positive picture for long-term mutual funds.

Overall, European fund promoters enjoyed €26.5 billion of net inflows into bond funds followed by €12.7 billion into mixed-asset funds and €4.6 billion of equity funds.

BlackRock, with net sales of €7.4 billion, was the best selling fund promoter for May, ahead of Pimco with €5.2 billion and Amundi with €3.8 billion.
