Custodian appoints hedge fund head after consolidation

Diarmuid Ryan has been appointed as global head of hedge fund services at BNP Paribas Securities Services (BNPPSS) following a consolidation of the asset servicer’s alternatives unit.

The position is newly created and based in Dublin, Ireland.

BNPPSS hired Ryan from State Street’s alternative investment solutions business where he held roles in Ireland and New York over the past ten years.

Ian Lynch previously headed hedge funds at BNPPSS but has since become global head of alternatives since the French asset servicer consolidated real estate, hedge funds and private equity into one unit.

Lynch said the appointment reinforced the firm’s commitment to the alternative investment sector across the world.

“As alternative investment strategies become more mainstream and investors continue to seek out absolute returns; operational efficiency and service delivery innovation will become increasingly critical,” Lynch said.
