Carmignac appoints chief economist

French funds house Carmignac has appointed Raphael Gallardo as its chief economist.

Gallardo joins Carmignac from Ostrum Asset Management, previously Natixis Asset Management.

He began his career at BNP Paribas where he spent ten years before becoming head of macroeconomic research, first at AXA Investment Managers and then Rothschild & Cie Gestion.

In the newly-created role Gallardo will report to Frederic Leroux, head of Carmignac’s cross-asset team.

Said Leroux: “Raphael is a natural fit for the cross-asset team which lies at the heart of Carmignac’s top-down approach.

“His unique expertise in anticipating cycles and determining market sentiment will be a true asset in applying the company’s global vision into investment decisions”.
