Niamh De Niese is to head a London “technology hub” for custody bank and asset manager, BNY Mellon.
BNY Mellon launched the hub in October last year to seek partnerships with fintech firms and develop technology across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (Emea).
The company has been searching for a new director for the hub since January, following the departure of its former leader, Leda Glyptis, to Sapient Global Markets.
In the role, De Niese will try to expand the services offered on BNY Mellon’s NEXEN digital platform, driving client engagement and building relationships with fintech firms.
She joins BNY Mellon from Visa Europe, having worked at the payments group since 2007 in several roles, including head of innovation operations & delivery for Europe. De Niese has also worked at Fidelity Investments.
BNY Mellon says the hub – dubbed the Emea Innovation Centre – has helped aggregate and bring together a wide range of fintech groups, including technology start-ups, developers, industry experts, and researchers, with the aim of connecting providers with clients, and developing products and services.
The opening of the hub was BNY Mellon’s sixth in three years. Other centres are based in the US (including Silicon Valley) and India. A new centre is scheduled to open in Singapore later this year.
