Two senior investment professionals are to join Germany’s oldest bank from Allianz Global Investors (AGI) as the bank expands its asset and wealth management business.
Matthias Born and Peter Kraus have been recruited to strengthen Berenberg’s equities division.
Born joins as chief investment officer for equities and Kraus becomes small and mid-cap team head at Berenberg Wealth and Asset Management.
Described as a “star fund manager”, Born joined AGI in 2001 and was most recently co-head of the team for European growth stocks.
Since 2007 he has been “successfully managing Concentra, a classic among German equity funds”, Berenberg said.
Kraus joined AGI in 2006 as a fund manager for European small and mid-caps and was lately responsible for the management of various European small and mid-cap funds and institutional mandates.
Henning Gebhardt, who joined Berenberg as head of wealth and asset management from Deutsche Asset Management earlier this year, said the bank would continue to expand its product range with Born and Kraus’s expertise.
The two recruits start at Berenberg, which was founded in 1590, in October.
