Axa IM unveils liquid absolute return team

Axa Investment Managers has made several senior hires for its new liquid absolute return strategies team, Axa IM Chorus.

Jérôme Brochard and Hector Chan have joined from Goldman Sachs and will work as co-chief investment officers. Brochard was previously managing director in the equities division at the investment bank. He is also the co-founder of capital markets trading company Nexgen Group, since bought by Natixis.

Chan was managing director and head of Asia-Pacific FICC [fixed income, currencies and commodities] structuring. Previously, he was responsible for the Asia Pacific ex-Japan interest rate and foreign exchange structuring team at BNP Paribas.

Meanwhile, Augustin Landier, visiting professor of finance at Harvard Business School, has been appointed as head of research. He will continue in his Harvard role.

Managing director Pierre-Emmanuel Juillard, who joined Axa IM earlier this year, will lead the division. In all, the Hong Kong-based team has 16 staff. A spokesperson for the firm said the operation would expand further over the year ahead.
