Aviva boosts emerging markets debt team

Aviva Investors has hired Carmen Altenkirch from Axa Investment Managers as a sovereign analyst in its emerging markets team.

The role is newly created and Altenkirch was also an emerging markets sovereign analyst in her former role.

She is to be based in London and report to Liam Spillane, head of emerging market debt.

The focus of Altenkirch’s role will be on frontier economies, with a broader remit across the investable emerging market debt universe.

She will work with hard-currency fund managers Aaron Grehan and Michael McGill.

Spillane said that the hire added to Aviva’s capabilities in frontier markets, where it sees attractive opportunities, and demonstrated the importance of the emerging market debt asset class to its fixed income business.
