Ashburton Investments, which is rare in having a fund management team in Jersey, is creating a global equity research team at its Channel Island’s base.
The firm has hired Robert Lea as head of global equity research to build the team.
Lea previously worked at UBS where he was global equity research sector head and strategist, working in Asia and then London.
Ashburton’s equity fund range includes the Global Leaders Equity Fund, as well as a specialist equity range that includes India, energy and ‘Chindia’ funds. These are all managed from Jersey, “a rarity for the Channel Islands finance industry,” the firm said.
The firm managed the equivalent of about €10 billion, as at December 31, 2016.
Jonathan Schiessl, chief investment officer at Ashburton Investments (International), said: “We are excited to bring somebody with Robert’s calibre of equity research and analysis in London and Asia to Jersey, enabling Ashburton to create what we believe is a unique research capability.”
Jonathan Aldrich-Blake, an Ashburton investment manager, is moving from his current role to join the research team as part of Ashburton’s plan to bolster its equity research.
