Apollo’s Hughes joins AJ Bell to lead fund selection

Fund shop AJ Bell Investments has named Ryan Hughes, formerly a multi-asset fund manager at Apollo, as its head of fund selection.

Hughes (pictured) will lead the team responsible for running the recently launched managed portfolio service for financial advisers. The position is newly created.

He will also work to expand the investment products offered by AJ Bell Investments, an investment management business created earlier this year following the company’s acquisition of Indexx Markets and Mansard Capital. A spokesperson for the firm said this will include a range of low-cost passive vehicles.

At Apollo, Hughes ran a number of multi-asset portfolios, including the Multi-Asset Balanced fund, the Multi-Asset Cautious fund and the Multi-Asset Adventurous fund. Prior, he was senior fund manager at Old Mutual Global Investors working across multi-assets.

Alex Dymock, managing director at AJ Bell Investments, said the firm’s focus is to build simple and low-cost investment solutions for financial advisers and their clients.
