Emerging markets contributed to a broadly positive return from the hedge fund sector in April, according to latest performance figures.
The HFRI Emerging Markets Index advanced 2.3%, lifting the year-to-date (YTD) gain for the index to 1.9%, says HFR, a performance data firm.
Exposures to Russia and Latin America led the way, with the HFR Russia/Eastern Europe index gaining 5.2%, and the Latin America index adding 4.8%.
These indices lead all categories YTD with gains of 12.4% and 14.5% percent, respectively.
April’s gains across wider hedge fund strategies added to gains seen in March. HFR said there were strong contributions from credit sensitive and event-focused strategies, as energy commodities surged and emerging markets continued their recovery.
The HFRI Fund Weighted Composite Index gained 1% in April, fully recovering the first quarter decline and lifting 2016 performance to 0.3%.
