London-based specialist European equities adviser SW Mitchell Capital has hired Hugh Grootenhuis as a specialist adviser.
Grootenhuis was recently chief executive of Waverton Investment Management, formerly known as JO Hambro Investment Management (JOHIM), where he worked alongside SW Mitchell founder Stuart Mitchell.
While at JOHIM, Mitchell established the European long-short equity Charlemagne Fund and the long-only European fund, which returned 133% from its inception in 1998 to 2005. He continues to manage the Charlemagne Fund, alongside the SW Mitchell European Fund at his own firm.
“We know Hugh well from our time together at JOHIM and his expertise and knowledge of the market will be integral as we move forward,” said Mitchell.
The firm, which celebrated its ten-year anniversary last year, has $2 billion (€1.8 billion) in assets under management. Mitchell remains bullish on European equities despite a turbulent start to the year.
“Most of the macro-economic data supports the view the European economy continues to gently recover, which is reinforced by our numerous on-the-ground meetings with companies on the continent,” said Mitchell.
