2015 a record year for European ETFs

ETF tradingDespite market turbulence last year, 2015 was another record year for European exchange-traded funds and products (ETFs/ETPs). 2014’s record of net new asset flows was beaten as flows increased 32.5%, or to $82 billion (€75.7 billion). Data released today by data provider ETFGI, showed that the European ETF and ETP industry had 6,683 listings last year and assets of $506 billion. There were 51 providers on 25 exchanges. These results should not come as a surprise to Funds Europe readers, as ‘A year to remember’ in the last issue predicted that 2015 was going to be another record one for the ETF/ETP industry. In the article, James Waterworth, head of ETF sales in the UK and Ireland at Lyxor, said: “There has to be something drastic for it not to be another record year.” Prophetic words indeed! ©2016 funds europe
