of the Year
Charles River Development
Charles River Investment Management System
In the front office IT section of the awards, all judges agreed on two key selection criteria that were deemed to be most topical: a system’s ability to deliver market access; and its ability to handle derivative instruments. Globalisation and a single platform were two other important factors. The contest between the three shortlisted products was closely run. But one judge said: “We are seeing more and more firms moving onto a single platform and Charles River seems to be the market leader.” Its geographical reach also went in Charles River’s favour. It was said that firms in this sector tend to “leagfrog” over each other year-on-year in terms of innovation and delivery. Charles River, though, was noted for its consistency.

The shortlist Fidessa LatentZero
This product is “probably ahead” on derivatives, commented one judge. Fidessa acquired LatentZero in 2007 in a move that represented the coming together of buyside and sellside vendors. Clearly this is a firm to watch. One judge said: “When LatentZero is more closely integrated with Fidessa, the system will be better.” LatentZero won last year’s award. MarketAxess EU Trading Platform
MarketAxess operates a multi-dealer platform for the electronic trading of European corporate bonds and credit derivatives. “It’s one part of a larger pie,” said a judge. But in shortlisting the product, judges recognised the strength of this offering in its field, and recognised its success at increasing trading volumes.
