Emerging market macro and credit specialist Finisterre Capital has hired Axa Investment Managers’ (Axa IM) Damien Buchet, as chief investment officer (CIO) for total return strategies.
Buchet previously worked as global head of emerging market fixed income at Axa IM, between 2010 and 2015. Prior to this, he was head of sovereign and emerging markets credit trading and structuring at Dexia Credit Local in Paris.
Other roles Buchet has held include head of emerging markets and specialist asset manager at CCR Gestion, Commerzbank Group; senior fund manager and deputy head of alternative emerging market funds at Barep Asset Management; and alternative asset management specialist at Societe Generale Group.
He has also worked for Euro Pacific Advisers in Hong Kong and at Societe Generale’s Hong Kong Branch.
At Finisterre Capital, Buchet will work with Christopher Watson in running the firm’s recently launched Emerging Market Debt Total Return Strategy fund.
Watson has been at Finisterre since 2007 as head of credit research and a credit portfolio manager and runs the firm’s $720 million (€644.6 million) in long-biased strategies.
Commenting on his new role, Buchet says: “Emerging markets need to develop a new business model away from a reliance on Chinese demand, industrial relocation from developed markets and an overreliance on commodities.”
