BNPPSS appoints head of Australia and New Zealand

BNP Paribas Securities Services (BNPPSS) has appointed David Braga as head of Australia and New Zealand.

Braga will start in his new role mid-May this year. His previous role was head of product for custody and fund services at JP Morgan Chase in Australia and New Zealand. Prior to this, he was head of technology, BT portfolio services, at BT Funds Management.

Braga is also chairman of the Australian Custodial Services Association (ACSA) and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He acts as the executive sponsor of ACSA’s regulatory and compliance working group, providing him with insight into legislative changes impacting custodians and clients.

Peter Baker, the previous BNPPSS head of Australia and New Zealand, left the firm in October to join Mercer Sentinel, as head of the firm’s team in the Pacific market.

Ian Perkins, currently acting head of BNPPSS Australia and New Zealand, will remain as head of client development, overseeing the local sales and relationship management teams. He will work closely with Braga to continue growing the bank’s business.

BNPPSS offers custody, front, middle and back office services for asset owners and managers in Australasia, and has recently won mandates in the region. These include Twusuper, an industry super fund for the transport and logistics sector, Australian Unity Investments, and Certitude, a company that provides support for people with learning disabilities and mental health needs.

José Placido, global head of client development at BNPPSS, says Braga’s appointment will assist the firm in delivering solutions tailored to local market requirements, during a period of increasing regulatory and market infrastructure change.
