AXA Investment Managers unveils bond fund

AXA Investment Managers has launched a bond fund seeking low-cost credit exposure while avoiding passive issuance-based index tracking strategies.

In a statement, the asset manager says the AXA Sterling SmartBeta Credit Bond Fund has been designed for institutional investors seeking low-cost credit exposure, without the drawback of passive insurance-based index tracking strategies.

Mark Benstead, portfolio manager and head of sterling credit, will manage the fund together with Lionel Pernias, portfolio manager.

Benstead and Pernias say they will employ a buy and monitor strategy, which aims to capture the market return within the sterling corporate bond segment through buying high quality credit and holding to maturity.

They seek to follow this approach unless the credit quality of a bond falls to what they consider as unacceptable levels.
