DMGT Pensions, the UK provider of pensions to the Daily Mail newspaper group, finds its strength lies in optimising the balance between what the in-house team are good at and what should be outsourced. The challenge is to execute this process so as not to create cost overruns and/or a poorly executed solution.

Judges liked DMGT’s emphasis on cost effectiveness and innovation. Another factor that grabbed the attention of judges was the use of IT in trustee governance, which is supported by a student placement scheme.

Additionally, judges liked the scheme’s emphasis on risk. Here, DMGT has delegated risk to a newly created finance and risk sub-committee.
